"Motte" ≈ stems from "motylek" (butterfly) in Polish and "Motte" (moth) in German, both symbolizing transformation

"Mira Motte" not only represents the miraculous transformation of your skin once you switch to our products, but also the wonderful shift to cleaner skincare, and hence a healthier lifestyle.

Founder of Mira mOtte

I built the line I couldn’t find. When I moved from Germany to the U.S., I expected to find the same low-waste, safe, high-quality body care I grew up with. Instead, I found fear-tactic marketing, overpriced “clean” products, and shelves full of formulas that didn’t live up to their claims.

So I created the line I couldn’t find: a curated collection of sustainable, proven skincare essentials made to work and stay accessible.
It’s been a learning curve, but the loyal customers (and their friends, and their moms!) tell me we’re onto something real.

Sharing a sustainable body care routine is what pushed me to start this brand in the first place

and that momentum hasn't slowed down for a second. The deeper I dig into the beauty industry, the more waste I see… and the more inspired I am to do things differently. Every new discovery sparks another idea for how Mira Motte can tread lighter, waste less, and make better choices feel effortless.

Our sustainability promises

Mira Motte rescues by-products from other industries for a more circular approach to beauty products. Needless to say that these ingredients are still *AMAZING* for your skin. Some of our founder's favorites:

Raspberry seed oil; upcycled from juice or jam production
(Packed with fatty acids and vitamin E. Very lightweight, almost velvety on your skin!)
Ethically-sourced Emu oil; by-product of emu meat
(A fantastic biological match for our skin's microbiome with high concentrations of omega fatty acids)
Beeswax; leftover from honey manufacturing
(Forms a protective barrier and locks moisture into your skin)
Grapeseed oil; rescued from the wine industry
(Rich in antioxidants and has a lovely, lightweight skin feel)

Small batches allow an accurate match of our production to your demand, allowing for virtually no wasted product. It also makes your skincare as fresh and potent as it can be with minimal preservatives for your healthiest skin!

We source everything as close as possible to our base in Bowling Green, Kentucky. For example...

Beeswax from local beekeepers
Calendula-infused oil from the local farmers market
Lanolin from Soapy Oaks Farm in Texas
Tallow from grass-fed cows in Wisconsin
Emu oil from Amarroo farms in Tennessee

Though it may subtract marketing points, we store and reuse shipping boxes and cushioning that our ingredients arrived in to ship out your order. Less convenient for us, but significantly reducing the ecological foot print of your order.

Concentrated formulas with no filler ingredients ever permit for smaller containers that last longer (= also bigger bang for your buck! ;-) ). Many products are waterless too, further reducing container size with the same skincare benefits.

In addition, all product containers are recyclable or reusable; the solid perfume baggies are compostable!

Johanna's story and how Mira Motte came to be

I was born in Germany with perfect baby skin ;-)
My family nick names were (and are) "Motte", meaning "moth", and "Motylek", meaning "butterfly"

THE BEGINNING: 1990s

I became interested in beauty and
read *every single* beauty product label

2000s

I learned to love and respect nature on *many* outdoor adventures across Europe and the U.S.
(Also met my future husband at a wedding in California)

2010s

Moved to the U.S. to get married!

2019

I began creating my own line of all the skin and body care essentials I wanted to use

2020

Launched my very own business "Jojo's Body Care" and soon got stocked in a local gift shop. I also started selling at farmers markets to learn exactly what you need

2021

I rebranded to Mira Motte! Reimagined the entire business name and line to better serve and reflect *you*. I tirelessly worked on every detail so that it reflects the vision I have for my business!

2026

My journey is where it all clicked

If I hadn’t lived these experiences, Mira Motte couldn’t exist.

What started as a personal search turned into a simple truth I knew others needed: skincare doesn’t need to come with 15 steps to be effective, or only plant-based to be clean. The same principles that shaped my journey now shape everything behind Mira Motte — cut through chaos, respect the planet, and keep skincare beautifully uncomplicated.
